 Jordan Valley Authority

Jordan Valley Authority (JVA) was established in 1977 according to Law No. 18 of 1977, amended by Law No. 19 of 1988 and later amended by Law No. 30 of 2001 with the mandate to carry out integrated socioeconomic development of the Jordan Valley area - then defined as extending from the Northern border of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan in the North to the Northern tip of the Dead Sea in the South; the Jordan River to the west and all areas in the Yarmouk and Zarqa basins that lie below the 300m contour line to the East; plus any areas the Cabinet appropriates to JVA. In the same year, the area was expanded by the Cabinet to include the territory lying between the Northern tip of the Dead Sea in the North and the Northern border of the Aqaba Municipality in the South; and from the 500m contour line to the East and the Kingdom's border to the West.
